About
our Founder, Greig Veeder, LCSW:
o
Greig has been in the mental health
field for over 25 years.
o Received his Masters Degree in Social Work from Denver
University in 1980.
o Founded the Colorado Men's Network, a non-profit organization
to provide community education about "men's issues"
as a compliment to women's issues. No longer an active organization.
o Served on the Board of the Colorado Association for
Sex Therapy.
o Treated wife batterers in the AMEND organization.
o Began treating sex offenders in 1983 and founded Teaching
Humane Existence.
o Started one of the original "offense specific"
sex offender treatment programs in Colorado. This kind of treatment
prioritizes stopping the harm offenders do over finding the cause
for why a person rapes or molests. The "why" question
is usually unanswerable.
o Started the use of the "Shared Living Arrangement"
(SLA) way of creating residential settings for sex offenders in
the community. This gave those working with the sex offender the
ability to learn much more about the individual offender and more
ability to control his behavior by ruining the offender's privacy.
o In 1986, introduced the use of the Polygraph as a treatment
tool in Colorado.
o In 1993, was the only person from Colorado to contribute
to the first international standards of practice for the treatment
of sex abusers (Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers).
o Helped write the law, and lobbied to get passed, the
Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB).
o Acted as an expert witness in several other pieces of
sex abuse legislation, one of which is now law in most every state.
o Served two terms as the first mental health professional
on the SOMB.
o Wrote the guiding principles for the State's sex offender
management standards.
o Currently, Greig is the lead designer and developer
of the Sex Offender Containment and Research (SOCR) facility -
a model project for controlling large numbers of sex offenders
for life who are in our communities.
o Greig has not been paid for many years for his work
with sex offenders and their management. He earns his living in
the business community as a consultant.
